PHONICS

Links to PowerPoint lessons as used in classes are in the drop down PHONICS menu above.

Phonics instruction helps students develop good reading skills. It helps the student map sounds onto spellings so that they can decode words. Decoding words also helps the students to develop word recognition skills, and improve their reading fluency. Reading fluency improves reading comprehension.

Phonics instruction also improves spelling ability because the students learn many different spelling patterns.

50% of all English words can be spelled using phonics and an even higher percentage of English words can be read (decoded) using phonics.

Please Note: the phonics power point lessons are password protected and students must enter a password in order to access them. The password for the phonics lessons is the same as the password for the story songs and texts.
