Cultural immersion is one of the fastest and most effective ways of learning a language. Creating a language rich environment at home supports and supplements students’ learning in the classroom and helps them consolidate their knowledge.
To facilitate students’ acquisition of authentic English language usage, we have put together a list of suitable programs for students that are not only fun, but ground students’ learning in a firm, relatable context.
Alphablocks – a hit CBeebies TV show that’s already helped hundreds of thousands of children to learn to read, and will bring phonics to life for anyone wishing to learn how to spell in English.
Angelina Ballerina – based on the original best-selling children’s book series by Katharine Holabird, Angelina Ballerina: The Next Steps follows the now 8-year-old Angelina as she embarks on the next stage in her life at a new school where she experiences new forms of music and dance.
Bob the Builder – Join Bob and the team as they work on building projects in Fixham and Spring City. There is no skyscraper too big, nor tree-house too small for the team who knows the fun is in getting it done!
Charlie and Lola – based on the books by Lauren Child, Charlie is a patient older brother taking care of his energetic and imaginative little sister Lola.
Fireman Sam – a brave, modest and dependable firefighter. He selflessly puts his life on the line to help others, and everyone in Pontypandy knows that nothing is too much trouble for Fireman Sam.
Lazytown – in a town full of lazy people, one hero, Sportacus, tries to make a difference by teaching people how to live healthy lives. Lazytown is about promoting a healthy lifestyle for children, in a positive, entertaining and catchy way.
Noddy – based on the stories by Enid Blyton, a little wooden doll who lives in Toyland with his red and yellow taxi and wears a blue hat with a bell.
Octonauts – based on the books by Meomi, the Octonauts are a dynamic eight-member team of quirky and courageous adventure heroes who dive into action whenever there is trouble under the sea. Their mission: to explore new underwater worlds, rescue amazing sea creatures and protect the ocean.
Peppa Pig – Peppa lives with her mummy and daddy and her little brother, George. Her adventures are fun, sometimes involve a few tears, but always end happily.
Postman Pat -Each story features Postman Pat and his black and white cat Jess and their adventures in the village of Greendale. Pat is more than just a friendly postman delivering the mail, he is always ready to lend a willing hand to all the people he meets on his rounds.
Thomas and Friends -Join Thomas, James, Percy, Gordon, Emily and all their friends as they explore the Island Sodor and the mainland beyond. The fun and cheeky engines will take your child on a journey of endless discoveries and teach valuable life lessons along the way.
Word World – Watch words come alive! A goofy group of animals are ‘WordFriends’ that teach kids how to solve problems by building the right word. They journey on funny adventures together discovering that letters form words and that words have meanings.
